Meet Colin Patrick FishColin is truly an amazing kid, and the original FIGHTING FISH!
He was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at six-months old. His growth had leveled, he was having difficulty breathing, and he was struggling to overcome a cold/infection. Thanks to great doctors - Colin was tested for CF with a sweat test. The results were positive. Since diagnosis, Colin is on a treatment plan that allows him to care for CF in the many different ways it affects his body. He takes enzyme supplements with every meal, which allow him to digest fat and the nutrients in his food. He also takes a daily vitamin supplement. In addition to the medications, it is important for Colin to have a high fat diet, since his body only retains a portion of the fat and nutrients he eats. Colin also needs breathing treatments using a nebulizer at least twice a day, in order to keep his airways open and his lungs as healthy as possible. He also receives Chest Physical Therapy with the use of PEP mask - a small device that helps him cough up the sticky mucus from his lungs. It is also important that Colin has daily physical activity, like running and playing. That part is easy for a little four-year-old boy! Beyond CF, Colin also has Celiac Disease - a condition that requires a strict gluten-free diet. |
